Finding the right pair of jeans can be a challenge, especially if you’re petite like me. At 5’0″. I’ve tried and tested a range of Levi’s jeans to find the perfect fits that balance style, comfort, and that classic Levi’s look and feel. Below, I’ll share a try on with my thoughts on some of the most popular styles, sizing tips, and how to adjust them for shorter frames.
Levi’s 501 ’90s Ankle Fit: Classic with a Modern Twist
The 501 ’90s Ankle Fit is my top recommendation if you love the relaxed, vintage vibe of the 501 but want something that feels a bit more current. This style has a straight-leg silhouette that gives a nod to the ’90s without being too oversized.
Sizing Tip: I recommend sizing down. I’m wearing a size 23 in this style, which gives me the right amount of room without feeling too loose, but I would prefer it to be a little more fitted since they are 100% cotton and will loosen up even more.

Levi’s 501 Original Cropped Fit: A Timeless Staple
The 501 Original Fit Cropped is the classic Levi’s style that started it all. With a mid-rise and a straight-leg cut, these jeans offer that iconic, vintage-inspired look that works with just about any outfit. I am wearing the original fit, which is great for a classic, relaxed look.
Sizing Tip: These definitely run big, I can typically wear a 24 in jeans, so I recommend going down a size for a snugger fit, especially since they tend to loosen up with wear.
Petite-Friendly Tip: If you’re like me and on the shorter side, you’ll likely find the original fit a bit long, I am wearing a cropped version of the 501 Original Fit that can save you the trouble of cuffing if that’s not your style.

Levi’s Japanese Plank Straight: Elevated Essentials
For those who appreciate premium denim, the Japanese Plank Straight jeans are a fantastic pick. These are my absolute favorite at the moment. The quality is impeccable and the fabric feels a lot more premium than the original Levi’s fabric. Japanese denim is known for its high quality craftsmanship, these jeans are made in Japan by expert artisans using traditional techniques and it shows. I bought mine from Japan in store but you can also order them online. I am loving dark wash denim and styling these are so easy and really look good dressed up or down which I LOVE. These jeans offer a straighter, structured fit that holds its shape beautifully over time.
Sizing Tip: True to size—these jeans can stretch out a bit with wear. A size 23 fits me perfectly, I could also fit a 24 but since these are tapered and more fitted I wanted to go with a smaller size offering a slightly relaxed yet tailored look.
Petite-Friendly Tip: Since these jeans aren’t cropped, I tend to cuff mine for a little added flair. I preferred the extra denim so I can achieve this look. I don’t believe they offer a ankle or cropped version in this style. So if you are petite they will be longer.

Levi’s Baggy Dad Jeans: Relaxed and Trendy
The Baggy Dad Jeans are a go-to for anyone who loves the oversized look that’s currently trending. These jeans offer a loose fit throughout, perfect for those casual, effortless outfits. BUT does not suit every frame! If you’re my height and frame these may not look right. I have seen them on others and they look great, but not for me!
Sizing Tip: Given their naturally relaxed fit, you may want to size down if you don’t want them to feel too baggy and long. The size 23 is extremely too big and long on me; they don’t have smaller sizes either. I personally don’t like the way these jeans look on me.
Petite-Friendly Tip: If you’re on the shorter side like me, these jeans can feel a bit overwhelming without some adjustments. If you love the baggy look but want something a little more streamlined, consider opting for the 501 ’90s Ankle Fit. It gives you that trendy oversized feel without the extra fabric swallowing up your frame.

Levi’s Ribcage Wide Leg: High-Waisted Heaven
The Ribcage Wide-leg is one of Levi’s most popular high-rise styles, offering a super-flattering fit that elongates the legs. The rise sits higher than most, giving you that coveted cinched waist look.
Sizing Tip: I wear a size 23 and it’s pretty tight around my waist while maintaining a wide-leg silhouette. This style is too long as you can see. I would opt for the Ribcage Ankle fit which is shorter if you’re around my height.

Final Thoughts: Choosing the Right Style for You
When it comes to Levi’s jeans, the fit is everything—especially if you’re petite. While all of these styles offer something unique, it’s all about finding the right balance between comfort, style, and the look you want to achieve. For a classic yet relaxed feel, the 501 ’90s Ankle Fit is a great alternative to baggier options like the Baggy Dad Jeans, providing that oversized vibe without being too overwhelming on a smaller frame.
Don’t be afraid to cuff or hem your jeans to get the perfect length. I hope this guide helps you find your perfect pair!
